H G. Geevarghese Mar Philoxenos (Puthencavil Kochuthirumeni)
His Grace. Geevarghese Mar Philoxenos, who is affectionately called as” Puthencavil Kochuthirumeni “ was the founder of Catholicate Higher Secondary School, Pathanamthitta, a famous one in the whole of Middle-Travencore. He had been a devoted priest and a reputed Metropolitan of Malankara Orthodox Church for decades. He was a post graduate and he commenced his efforts to light the lamp of wisdom all around Pathanmthitta and its premises. His concentrated concern found fruit in 1931 and it sprouted as a school. In due time the school was upgraded and now it has attained a renowned and reputed posture of a higher secondary school, having classes from 5th to 12th and consisting of approximately 1300 students. The revolutionary procurator behind the marvellous advancement of Catholicate Higher Secondary School is none other than the ascetic, Mar Philoxenos.Later his longing and inspiration resulted in the onset of Catholicate College ,Pathanamthitta by Malankara Orthodox Church. Mar Philoxenos attracted the attention of generations through his exemplary hermitic life and his contributions to the field of education in middle Travencore is both remarkable and indelible.
